FAQ and troubleshooting
Fixes for common problems in Prefera, including flagged sentences, blocked publishing, DNS that will not verify, connection errors and limits.
Find your problem below. If it is not here, see Support.
Drafts and facts#
Why are sentences in my draft flagged?#
A flagged sentence is a claim that no approved fact supports. Prefera marks it and shows a card with the reason. Nothing is guessed on your behalf. Read more in Facts and the fact check.
For each flagged sentence you can:
- Add fact adds the sentence to Facts as an approved fact, if it is true.
- Remove sentence takes it out of the draft.
- Keep anyway keeps it and records that you chose to. Prefera still shows it as unsupported.
Why is publishing blocked?#
When claims are flagged, the publish area says Resolve 3 flagged claims first (with your own number). Deal with each flagged sentence as above, then publish. The message links to the first flag.
If you would rather not review each one, there is a setting called When a sentence has no approved fact behind it. It has two choices:
- Ask me to review (recommended) blocks publishing until you decide.
- Publish anyway. Sentences about competitors without a source are removed first.
You find the setting on the Content plan screen. See Autopilot and approvals.
Other reasons publishing may not go through:
- You are a Viewer. Viewers can't publish. Ask an owner to make you an Editor. See Team, roles and client reports.
- The destination is not connected. See Connect your site (CMS).
- The connection was made by an agent with no publish permission. See
publish_requiredbelow.
Where do I fix a fact that is wrong?#
Open Facts in the sidebar. Approved facts are the only statements Prefera uses in content. Each fact has an actions menu there. See Facts and the fact check.
Hosted blog and domains#
My hosted blog domain will not verify. What do I do?#
DNS can take a few minutes. While the dialog is open, Prefera checks again every minute. You can also click Check again any time.
If it keeps failing, check that the record Name, Type and Value match the table exactly, that you added both the CNAME and the TXT record, and that you added them where your domain's DNS is managed. The step-by-step list and the messages you may see are in If DNS is not verifying.
The same applies to the custom domain for client reports. See Custom domain for reports.
Why does the status say Needs attention?#
The last DNS check returned an error. The message appears under the DNS table. Fix what it says and click Check again.
Connections#
An integration says Needs attention. How do I fix it?#
Open Integrations in the sidebar. The tile shows Needs attention.
- Google Search Console and Analytics: click Reconnect and approve again. See Google Search Console and GA4.
- Reddit: click Reconnect Reddit.
- Outreach mailbox: the tile says "The last login failed. Open Manage and test again." See Outreach mailbox.
- Dev.to and Hashnode: the tile shows the reason. Hashnode tokens are created under Account settings > Developer. See Dev.to and Hashnode.
- A CMS: open the connect dialog and click Test connection. See Connect your site (CMS).
Why can't I add another CMS connection?#
Each plan includes a number of CMS connections, and Prefera hosting counts as one. The connect dialog says how many your plan includes and links to Upgrade. See Plans, add-ons and billing.
Limits and billing#
Why have my runs paused?#
Either you used the month's answers, or a payment failed.
- Month's answers used: a red banner shows how many you used. Runs resume when the new period starts. Add Extra AI answers to continue sooner, or click Lower schedule to check less often.
- Payment failed: a banner says your last payment didn't go through. Tracking continues for a short grace period, then pauses. An owner clicks Update card.
See Plans, add-ons and billing.
I can't add another question.#
Your plan sets how many questions a brand can have. The message says how many you have. Archive a question, give the brand a bigger share in Tracking settings, or check fewer questions daily so more fit.
Why is the add-on switch disabled?#
Add-ons are for subscribers. On Free the Add-ons tab asks you to choose a plan first. Only the workspace owner can switch add-ons or buy credit top-ups.
I removed an add-on or downgraded, but it is still on.#
That is expected. Removing an add-on and moving to a lower plan take effect at the end of the billing period. You keep what you paid for until then. The Billing tab shows the date.
A plan change is blocked.#
You have more brands than the new plan covers. Remove brands in All brands, or pick a plan that covers them. Nothing is deleted for you.
Team#
My teammate cannot accept the invite.#
- The link expires after 7 days. On the Team tab, click Resend invite.
- The teammate must be signed in with the same email address you invited. If they are signed in with another email, the invite does not work.
- Inviting teammates needs a paid plan.
Why can't I change the team or billing?#
Only owners can change the team and billing. Other members can read the screen. Client viewers only see the client report.
Agents and API#
These codes come back from agents and the REST API. The full list is in Permissions, approvals and limits.
What does rate_limited mean?#
Too many requests or changes in a short time. Wait the number of seconds in the message, then try again. Do not retry in a loop. An agent should tell you instead.
What does area_not_allowed mean?#
The key or connected app is not allowed to use that part of Prefera. The reply lists the areas it can use. Change the areas under API & MCP. See Permissions, approvals and limits.
What does publish_required mean?#
The connection can write but not publish. Reconnect it and choose Read, write and publish, or do the step in the app. See Connect an agent (MCP).
What does pending_approval mean?#
This is not an error. The connection has Ask me in Prefera first on, so the publish step waits for you. Nothing has run yet.
- Open Approvals in the sidebar.
- Under Waiting for you, click Approve to run it once, as you, or Deny to drop it.
Requests expire after 72 hours. Only owners and editors can decide. See Ask me in Prefera first.
