Facts and the fact check
How approved facts keep drafts accurate, how unsupported sentences are flagged, and the setting that decides what happens when a sentence has no fact behind it.
Every draft Prefera writes can only state what is on your Facts list. After a draft is written, each sentence is checked against that list. A sentence with no approved fact behind it is flagged before you can publish.
Approved facts#
A fact is one plain claim about your brand, such as a price, a feature or a policy. Facts are grouped (for example Product, Pricing, Proof points and Honest concessions).
Where facts come from#
- Your site. In onboarding, Prefera reads your site and proposes facts. You approve the ones that are true today. See the Quickstart.
- You. On Facts, press Add fact. Enter the Group, the Fact and, if you have one, a Source address. Leave the source empty and the fact is marked "Added by you". A fact you add is approved straight away.
- A flagged sentence. In a draft, Add fact turns the sentence into an approved fact. See The fact check on drafts.
- Agents. An agent can add and approve facts over MCP or the API.
Manage facts#
Open Facts in the sidebar. Each row shows the fact, its source, when it was last verified and the pages that use it. Use the row's actions menu (Actions for this fact):
- Edit changes the wording or the source. A saved edit approves the fact. If published pages use it, they are marked for review.
- Approve appears on a fact marked Pending. A pending fact is not yet usable in drafts.
- Still true appears when a source has changed or cannot be reached. It confirms the source page still says this.
- Retire takes a fact out of use. Drafts stop using it, and pages that used it are marked for review. A toast offers Undo.
Retired facts are listed under Retired facts. Press Restore to approve one again.
Keeping facts current#
Sources are re-checked every week. You can also press Re-verify sources. When a source page changes, the fact gets a badge and is held out of drafts until you confirm it (Still true), edit it, or the re-check finds the page states it again. If a source cannot be read, the row shows Source unreachable. A banner on Facts offers Draft updates for N pages for pages that are now out of date.
A fact is usable in drafts only when it is approved, not retired and its source check is not failing.
The fact check on drafts#
When a draft is written or edited, each sentence is marked. Hover a sentence to see why.
- Supported by an approved fact.
- Quoted from a cited competitor page.
- Unsupported. No approved fact backs it.
A chip above the draft summarises the check, for example "1 unsupported claim" or "All 6 claims supported".
For each flagged sentence you can:
- Add fact: add it to Facts as an approved fact, with a group and an optional source.
- Remove sentence: take it out of the draft.
- Keep anyway: keep the sentence and record that you chose to. The note reads "Kept on purpose" with the date, and Prefera still shows the sentence as unsupported.
Keep anyway is not offered for sentences where the writer says it cannot give a figure (for example, that it cannot give a price). Remove those or add the fact.
What blocks publishing#
Publishing is refused while any of these is true:
- A flagged sentence is still unresolved. The publish area says "Resolve N flagged claims first" and Show the first jumps to it. Add each as a fact, remove it, or keep it on purpose.
- The draft contains raw markup, or a link or image that does not lead to your own site or to the source of one of your approved facts.
- You have no usable facts. The message says to approve some in Facts, or to re-verify them if they all need a fresh source check.
The publish anyway setting#
The setting When a sentence has no approved fact behind it is per brand. Open Content plan, press Cadence and automation and find it near the bottom. You must be an editor or owner to change it.
| Option | What happens |
|---|---|
| Ask me to review (recommended) | Unsupported sentences block publishing until you resolve each one. This is the default. |
| Publish anyway. Sentences about competitors without a source are removed first. | Just before publishing, placeholders and unsourced claims about a named competitor are removed. Other unsupported sentences are kept automatically and recorded as kept by your setting. |
Under Publish anyway, the draft shows "Your setting publishes these anyway." The markup and link checks still block. If removing sentences would leave nothing to publish, publishing is refused until you add approved facts or write the draft again.
Switching back to Ask me to review withdraws the automatic keeps from drafts that are not live yet.
