Authority, outreach and directories

Read your Domain Rating, work the outreach board to ask for links, and submit your listings to directories from Prefera.

Authority is how much the rest of the web vouches for your site. AI engines and Google both lean on it. It moves slowly, so the screen is about steady steps. Open What to do > Authority. It has three tabs: Overview, Outreach and Directories.

Overview#

Domain Rating#

The Domain Rating card shows your score out of 100 next to your tracked competitors, with the change this month and a small chart of recent readings.

Every Domain Rating value carries this credit, with its link:

Domain Rating by Ahrefs

The public sample workspace shows made-up values and says so in place of that credit.

How it refreshes:

  • Prefera reads your site and your tracked competitors once a day. The first numbers appear after the first daily check has run.
  • Owners and editors on a paid plan see Refresh next to Updated on the card. It reads only your brand's domain and its tracked competitors. You can use it once an hour per brand. If the provider does not answer, nothing changes and the message says to try again in an hour.
  • Where Domain Rating is not in use, the card shows Authority score instead. This is Prefera's own read of how many trusted sites link to you, from 0 to 100, checked every week. Only the Domain Rating card has a Refresh button.

New and lost links this week lists sites that started or stopped linking to you in the last 7 days. It is checked once a week. Strength is a 0 to 100 score for the linking site. It is not Domain Rating.

How to raise it#

Four steps sit under the cards, cheapest first:

  1. Directories: shows how many are listed, submitted and to do, and the next few. Open directories goes to the Directories tab.
  2. Lists AI cites: See the lists opens the pages AI engines quote when they answer your questions.
  3. Link gap: sites that link to two or more of your competitors but not to you. This needs at least two tracked competitors and a finished weekly read. Draft outreach starts an email. Rows that look like link sellers or are off topic sit under Show hidden.
  4. Unlinked mentions: pages that name you without linking to you. Draft link request starts an email.

Nothing here is a promise. Most outreach gets no reply.

Outreach#

Open Authority > Outreach, or click Outreach board on the Overview. It is a board of every site worth asking for a link. Switch between Board and List at the top. Sites come from your link gap, unlinked mentions and the outreach emails you write.

Stages#

Each card sits in one of these columns:

StageMeaning
FoundWorth asking. Nothing sent yet.
ContactedEmail sent. Waiting for a reply.
RepliedThey answered.
NegotiatingTalking about the link.
Link liveThe link is on their page.
Not interestedSaid no, or we stopped.

You can move a card to any stage with the menu on the card, or with the buttons under Stage in the sheet. Replies and live links also move a card forward on their own. A card is never moved back for you.

Draft and send an email#

  1. Click a card to open its sheet.
  2. Under Who to write to, click Find who to write to. Prefera reads the page and the site's contact pages. It only shows addresses the site publishes. Click Edit to enter a name, email or contact page yourself.
  3. Under The email, click Write the email. This opens a draft in the fix editor, written from your approved facts. Edit it there.
  4. Back on the card, click Send from your mailbox address, or use Copy email, Open in Gmail or Other mail app to send it yourself. Then move the card to Contacted.

Sending from Prefera needs a connected mailbox. See Outreach mailbox. Without one, the board says so and nothing is sent from it.

Approve before it goes#

Nothing is sent without your approval. When you click send, a preview shows the exact email. Click Approve and send, or Not yet to stop. Cards ready to send also appear in a Ready to send tray. Tick the ones you have read and click Review and send. The preview shows the daily cap and the gap between emails. Someone who says no or bounces is never emailed again. Until an approved email goes out, Cancel send takes it back.

Sending pauses if your postal address is missing. Add it in Integrations.

Follow-ups#

When a contacted site has been quiet, the card shows the follow-up as due. Open it and click Write the follow-up. Edit the text, then save and send it the same way, with your approval. Prefera sends at most two follow-ups per site. After the second with no reply, the sheet offers to move the card to Not interested, and Prefera will not write again. The Monday brief lists follow-ups that are due.

Directories#

Open Authority > Directories. The page lists business and software directories that fit what you sell. Directories where your competitors already have links come first once the weekly link check has run. Each has a cost, a usual wait and a status: To do, Submitted or Listed.

You submit each listing yourself. Prefera never posts anything for you.

  1. Click Get the entry on a directory.
  2. Under Your entry, click Copy on a field, or Copy all. The entry is written from your approved facts. A blank field means you have no fact for it, and Prefera does not guess. Add facts on the Facts screen first.
  3. Click the Open button in Submit it (it carries the directory's name) to go to its form, and paste the entry in.
  4. Back in Prefera, click Mark as submitted.
  5. When the listing is live, click Mark as listed. You can paste the address of your live listing first. It is optional.

Undo returns a directory to To do. Only an owner or editor can change a status. If a new link from a listing shows up in your link data, the directory page says the listing won a link. It also says Prefera cannot prove the listing caused it.

If you have not set a category yet, the page asks you to set it so it can list directories that fit.
