Prefera-hosted blog
No CMS or blog? Prefera hosts your articles on a free address or on your own subdomain, with a choice of three themes.
If you have no CMS or blog, Prefera can host your articles. You get fast pages with your name and colours, a sitemap, an RSS feed and structured data for search and AI engines. It works as a publishing destination like any other. See Publishing.
Publish sends each page here as a draft first. It goes live only when you approve it.
Turn it on#
- In the sidebar, open Integrations.
- Find Prefera hosting and click Connect. The dialog is titled Host it on Prefera.
- Click Turn on Prefera hosting.
You get a free address on prefera.si right away. Prefera hosting counts as one CMS connection on your plan. If your plan has none left, the dialog says so and links to Pick a plan or Upgrade. See Plans, add-ons and billing.
Only owners and editors can change it.
Your Prefera address#
After you turn it on, the dialog shows your Prefera address with the status Live. It has the form https://prefera.si/p/<name>, where the name comes from your brand's domain. It also shows how many pages are live. The sitemap and the RSS feed (feed.xml) sit under the same address.
Themes#
Under Look of your blog, pick one. The change saves when you select it.
| Theme | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| Classic | Clean cards with a featured latest article. The default. |
| Magazine | Large images, a big lead story and serif headings. |
| Minimal | One column of text, lots of white space and no index images. |
Use your own subdomain#
Pages on your own domain build that domain's authority, so Prefera recommends it for search. If you do not see Your own subdomain in the dialog, the option is not available for your workspace.
- In Subdomain of your site, type a subdomain of your brand's website, such as
blog.yourbrand.com. - Click Add domain.
Rules the app enforces:
- It must be a subdomain of your brand's domain. The bare domain and
wwware refused. - A hostname already used by another site is refused.
- One hostname per site. To change it, remove the current one first.
The status shows Waiting for DNS. Prefera shows a table titled DNS records to add with the columns Type, Name and Value. Each cell has a copy button.
DNS records to add#
Add these where your domain's DNS is managed, your registrar or Cloudflare.
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| CNAME | Your subdomain, for example blog | The hosting address shown in the table. Copy it from the app. |
| TXT | _prefera. followed by your subdomain, for example _prefera.blog | prefera-verify= followed by 40 characters (digits and the letters a to f). Copy it from the app. |
Notes:
- The CNAME points your subdomain at the hosting address the table shows. If the table shows an A record instead, add that.
- The TXT record proves the hostname is yours. Without it, the hostname does not go live, even with the CNAME in place. The app says: "Add the TXT record below too: it proves the hostname is yours. Then check again."
- The TXT value is specific to your site. Do not reuse another site's value.
- Use the Name exactly as the table shows it. It is relative to your domain when Prefera knows the zone, and the full hostname (for example
_prefera.blog.yourbrand.com) when it does not.
Verification#
While the dialog is open, Prefera checks again every minute, for up to 15 minutes. You can also click Check again at any time. DNS can take a few minutes.
When it is verified:
- The status changes to Live.
- Your pages move to your own domain.
- The Prefera address redirects to it.
If DNS is not verifying#
- Click Check again. Read the message under the table.
- Confirm the record Name, Type and Value match the table exactly. Copy them with the copy buttons.
- Add both the CNAME and the TXT record.
- Check that you added them where your domain's DNS is actually managed.
- Wait a few minutes and click Check again.
The messages you may see:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Add the record below, then check again. DNS can take a few minutes. | Add the CNAME, then check again. |
| Add every record below. The TXT record proves you own the hostname. | Add every record in the table. |
| The hostname is confirmed, but DNS is not pointing here yet. | Fix the CNAME so it points to the value in the table. |
| Add the TXT record below too: it proves the hostname is yours. Then check again. | Add the _prefera TXT record. |
A status of Needs attention means the last check returned an error. The message appears under the table.

Remove the domain#
Click Remove domain and confirm. Your articles stop showing on that domain right away. They stay live at your Prefera address, and you can add the domain again later.
