IndexNow
Turn on instant indexing so Bing and other IndexNow engines hear about a new page as soon as it goes live, by adding one key file to your site.
IndexNow tells Bing and other IndexNow engines the moment a page goes live. Google does not use IndexNow.
It appears as the Instant indexing card under Integrations > Publish to your site.
How it works#
When a page you publish from Prefera goes live, Prefera announces its address to IndexNow. For this to work, the IndexNow protocol needs proof that you control the site. That proof is a plain text file on your site named after a key.
No CMS that Prefera connects to can create a file at the top of your site, so you add this file once yourself.
Until the file is in place, publishing still works. Prefera just does not send the announcement. The card shows One step left.
Turn it on#
- On the Instant indexing card, click Set up.
- Create a plain text file named exactly as File name shows, at the top level of your site. Put the File content key in it as its only content. Use Copy key and Copy file name to avoid typing mistakes.
- Check that the file opens at the address shown under It must open at.
- Click I added it, check.
If the check finds the file, the card changes to On and says "The key file is on" your host. Each page you publish from Prefera is announced as soon as it is live. If it does not find it, the dialog tells you why. Fix the file and check again.
Owners and editors can run the check.
Change or check later#
Once on, the card shows Manage. It reopens the dialog and confirms the key file is on your host.
